From the publishers:

Poppy is eleven and has attitude. When she finds herself living with her cantankerous grandfather, a man she neither likes or loves all hell breaks loose. Something of a hermit, a man living in the past who sees very little good in anything or anybody. Ken is suddenly and unexpectedly confronted by a tornado of energy who can’t sit still and asks too many questions. He is a man with no television, no computer and no patience, and while their relationship is volatile it’s also very funny and strewn with moments of real tenderness.

Grow Up Grandad is an inter-generational story that deals with love and loss, hope and sadness as the relationship between Poppy and her Grandad is first thrown together and eventually torn apart.

Gordon Steel won a Fringe First Award at the 1993 Edinburgh Festival for his first play Dead Fish, which also received an Independent Theatre Critics nomination and toured nationally with Hull Truck Theatre Company. His other plays written and directed for Hull Truck include Albert Nobbs, Like a Virgin, A Pair of Beauties, Studs and A Kick in the Baubles. Like a Virgin was also commissioned by LWT as a television film. Gordon wrote and directed Jumping the Waves for the opening of the Arc Theatre, Stockton and he has also written for the BBC, Carlton Television and Radio 4. Gordon lives in Eaglescliffe and is married with three children His first love is football and he has been a fanatical supporter of Middlesbrough as long as he can remember.
