FAQ/Help

Articles

I am always interested in featuring amateur theatre groups on the front page. If you are amateur then it's free. If you're a commercial organisation, then I do ask for a contribution. Contact me via the Contact/About page and ask for my advertising rates. In both cases, use the form on the Submit An Article page in the Articles section. Information submitted should include more than just basic production/audition/etc information. This is going on the front page - make it interesting. I'll always ask for more information if I need it. You can submit an image to go with the article, but this MUST be a JPG, pdfs cannot be used. If you are submitting an event, then please submit the information via the Submit An Event form AS WELL. You might find it useful to include some of the same information in your article submission as they will be featured separately on the site.
When an article is featured on the front page, it is automatically added to the Articles page in date order with the most recent first. You can browse the article headings or search for specific information using the site wide search box on the right hand side.

Books And Scripts

Please use the form on the Submit A Book/Script page in the Books/Scripts section. Hover on the words Books/Scripts and then click the drop down menu. I'll always ask for more information if I need it. You can submit an image to go with the article, but this MUST be a JPG, pdfs cannot be used. I do not promise to feature any book submitted and you might be asked to contribute a small amount to be featured.

amdram.co.uk is not run as a commercial venture, but it still has operating costs. To help fund the running of amdram.co.uk I am affiliated with both amazon.co.uk and The Internet Theatre Bookshop (StagePlays). I get a small commission for each purchase made via these links. Where possible I link to both stores so that you can choose your favourite.

Calendar

The calendar is a completely new feature to amdram.co.uk and I hope you find it useful. Use the arrows to navigate to a specific date and then click the date. You will be given a complete list of events happening that day. You can then click on any event title that you're interested in. If there is only one event that day, then you will get all the details for that one event rather than having to click through. If you are looking for events the same day, then these will be listed on the right hand side of the site towards the bottom.

The Directory/Classified Adverts

amdram.co.uk now has a dedicated Directory, where there are several different categories where you can advertise for help and anything else you need. The current sections are: Back Stage Competitions and Festivals Filming Front of House Lighting Magazines Music Organisations People Props Scripts Sets Sound Training Useful Links Venues Wardrobe but a new section can be added if necessary. All adverts stay on the site for three months. The person posting the advert will then be contacted and asked if they wish to continue advertising. This way all adverts will be current. If you are an amateur theatre group or individual then advertising is usually free. Commercial organisations will be asked to contribute towards the running of the site.
Click on the main heading Directory. Then scroll down. The organisations and individuals listed first are those that help support amdram.co.uk. Below them you will find the main sections. Beside each title there is a number, this is the number of ads currently stored for that section. Click on the section you're interested in and you can browse the adverts. The most recent adverts will be listed first. A featured advert stays at the top and is available for a small fee. When you see something you're interested in, click the title and you'll see the whole advert. If you wish to respond to the advert, please fill in the form at the bottom of the advert. This will be sent to me and I will forward your message to the advertiser who will then contact you direct.
To place an advert, please use the form on the Submit An Advert page in the Directory section. Complete the form and I'll get back to you. Don't worry if you can't find a category that fits your advert, I can always create a new one.
If you notice an error in your advert, please complete the form at the bottom of the advert and I'll make any necessary amendments.
Within the Catgories are sections for Organisations, Useful links and Venues. If you know of a website or organisation that should be featured here, then please contact me via the form at the bottom of the Contact/About page and I'll see about adding them.

Events

An event is either a production, an audition or part available, a festival or some other event such as a fund raising event.
To add an event, please use the form on the Submit An Event page in the Events section. Complete the form and I'll add the information to the website for you. If I need further nformation I'll email you.
If you notice an error in your event, please contact me via the form at the bottom of the Contact/About page and I'll amend the information.
If you know the day you are looking for an event on then you can use the calendar as described above. If the day you are interested in is today then all events happening today are listed on the right hand side of the site towards the bottom. To search for productions, auditions, festivals or other events use the Advanced Search/Filter option at the top in the middle of the Events page. Click on Show Advanced Search/Filter, select the appropriate category and then click the magnifying glass. This will list all events in that category. You can refine this search by adding dates and/or location details.
This current design went live in September 2017 in amdram.co.uk's 20th year on the internet (yes, 20 years)! As you can imagine, I have collected a lot of data in that time and it seemed a waste just to lose it all. However, I couldn't justify the cost of moving all the data manually into the new system. I have tried to find a way of making the data accessible so if you want to know how many groups have performed a particular play for example you can. Or you might want to know who has performed a play in your area recently before deciding to produce it yourself. By adding events prior to the 1st of Setember 2017 to this page, the events will show up in when you use the general search box on the right of the site. If you don't want all this extra information, stick to the search facility on the Events page.

Yes and has been for quite a while. All new information added to the site is added to the Facebook page as well as the Twitter account (see below). The Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/amdram.co.uk/
If someone is performing the show or has just performed it, it's worth dropping them a line and asking. If not, the easiest way is to submit an "advert" via the Classifieds Ads section as detailed above.
By using a form I can ask for the information I need to be able to post your information to the site with the minimum of fuss. I have also arranged for a copy to be sent to my phone, so if there's an emergency I can get it sorted as soon as possible. My email address still works, but the forms help me.

I love people to link back to amdram, it all helps. Have a look at this article - https://amdram.co.uk/how-to-link-to-amdram-co-uk/ which tells you how.
I run an opt in/opt out mailing list which is hosted by Mailjet. Once a week I send out an email which lists everything that has been added to the site since the previous email as well as any events happening in the coming week. This is all done manually from the information available on the site. You can sign up by clicking on the Subscribe To The Newsletter button on the left. Every email you receive will have an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
I've tried to cover everything I could think of here, but if you have a question I haven't answered, then please go to the Contact/About page and use the contact form at the bottom of the page.
amdram.co.uk has been on the internet for 20 years (in 2017). It started as amdram.org and then changed to .co.uk. I also hold the names .com and .org.uk. amdram.net nor the Amateur Stage Magazine are anything to do with me. I am also not associated with any other organisation.
amdram.co.uk's Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions can be found at https://amdram.co.uk/how-to-get-started-in-amateur-dramatics/
I made the decision with this design to cut out the necessity for people register and find their way around a WordPress dashboard. This way you don't need to remember and username and password and by completing forms I have all the information first time around.
